State Man wins the McCoy Contractors County Handicap Hurdle

 

It’s Willie Mullins and Paul Townend yet again as State Man wins the McCoy Contractors County Handicap Hurdle. A nightmare start for the bookmakers!

With Willie Mullins now on seven winners, he is very much on course to be the champion trainer once again at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival. Indeed with just five races left on the card, no one can really touch him now with Gordon Elliott needing to win all five to draw himself level.

State Man defied his 141 BHA mark to romp home in the style of a future Grade One runner. Mullins was clearly and understandably delighted as he bagged his seventh winner of the 2022 Festival and he will now be setting his hopes on Al Boum Photo in the Gold Cup later this afternoon.

With regard to Al Boum Photo who will be aiming for a third win in the Gold Cup and his first with cheekpieces, Mullins said: “I think cheekpieces helps him at this stage of his career and I don’t think we’ll be hanging around.”

With Mullins on a roll, it would take a brave man to bet against him this afternoon.
