Cheltenham Festival Day Four: Rachael Blackmore hits SIX in the Triumph Hurdle
Cheltenham Festival Day Four
Rachael Blackmore all-but-confirms her position as Number One Jockey at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival by bagging her sixth win of the meeting aboard Quilixios in the Triumph Hurdle.
This has been a remarkable week for Rachael Blackmore, the Irish jockey set to make history by finishing the Cheltenham Festival as top jockey in 2021. She bagged her sixth win of the meeting in the opening race of Day Four, Quilixios claiming the Triumph Hurdle in style and boosting the rider’s confidence even further ahead of her Gold Cup bid later this afternoon.
A Henry de Bromhead inmate, Quilixios was prominent from start to finish, settling down on the heels of pace-setter Talking About You before storming to the front two flights from the line. The home team was represented by David Pipe-trained Adagio and he did his utmost to reel Quixilios in up the hill but Blackmore held on and galloped all the way up to the line, 20/1 punt Haut En Couleurs finishing third.
Quixilios only joined the Henry de Bromhead stable a few weeks ago following his move from suspended Gordon Elliott. Blackmore paid tribute to the runner’s former team:
“It’s incredible. Henry’s only had this horse a short time, so all the work went into him at Cullentra stables, so it’s thanks to their work, really”, she said.
“Henry just had to get him here on the boat, so big thanks to all them. He’s a smashing horse. And thanks to Cheveley Park for putting me up, it’s brilliant.
She admitted her parents are enjoying her adventures at the Cheltenham Festival. She added: “They’re getting a great kick out of it, so it’s brilliant. I know they’d have loved to have been here today, like a lot of people. I’m just happy I’m here and these horses are here.”
