Cheltenham Festival Day Four: Porlock Bay wins the Hunters’ Chase

Cheltenham Festival Day Four

Porlock Bay eased to victory in a photo finish with Billaway in the Hunters’ Chase on the closing day of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival and denied the Irish from extending their lead in the meeting.

Billaway and Porlock Bay were involved in a thoroughly exciting finish in the St James’ Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase this afternoon and it was the latter who just prevailed in a photo finish. Amateurs are prohibited from riding due to the continued Covid-19 restrictions and as such Lorcan Williams found himself in the saddle on the Will Biddick ten-year-old, this runner only making his second start on these shores having previously raced in France.

16/1 punt Porlock Bay was travelling extremely well from a considerable way out, however 2/1 favourite Billaway – who finished second to It Came To Pass in 2020 – proved difficult to shake off, matching strides following the final flight. It remained extremely close all the way to the finish line, however it was Porlock Bay who just nudged to glory on the nod, Staker Wallace finishing third and pace-setting Latenightpass completing the first four.
