The Nice Guy wins the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

It’s the Willie Mullins Show on Day Four of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival as the champion trainer bags his eighth winner of the meeting with 18/1 shot The Nice Guy. As if to prove his dominance, he also takes second with Minella Cocooner.

The Nice Guy lived up to expectations in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle when he proceeded through the contest like an extremely classy individual. This was the eighth win of the week for Willie Mullins and a big well done also to Sean O’Keeffe who gave this runner a quiet ride throughout. Minella Cocooner jumped big throughout the race but made a few mistakes along the way so to only find a single contender too strong proves how powerful an engine he has.

Beaten favourite Hillcrest had a thoroughly miserable showing throughout although Richard Patrick was upbeat with regard to his future. He said:

“I’m not quite sure what the problem was but his jumping fell apart and he made everything feel very hard which he’s never done before. My thoughts are with connections of the Gordon Elliott horse (Ginto).

“Hillcrest normally travels so well and I don’t know if it’s because of the dead and tacky ground but he’s come out of it OK.”
