A Plus Tard wins the Cheltenham Gold Cup

It’s back-to-back wins in the Cheltenham Gold Cup for trainer Henry De Bromhead as A Plus Tard gives Rachael Blackmore her first ever win in the contest.

History was made in the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup when Rachael Blackmore became the very first female jockey to win the contest. Joyous scenes in the winners’ enclosure and a just reward for one of the finest jockeys around. Having bagged six winners at last year’s Festival in front of empty stands, the 32-year-old has once again impressed at Prestbury Park and having finished second in last year’s Gold Cup, she went one better this time around in front of packed terraces.

The winning jockey said: “I’m so overwhelmed, I feel so lucky to be riding these horses. I don’t know how or why I’m so lucky to be in the position I’m in.

“Not often a jockey gets to be in this position. This year I was lucky to be on the right one and it’s just overwhelming.

“It worked out, I tried not to make the same mistake again (as last year).

“My mum is at home but my dad and my sister are here. This is a magical place and I just feel incredibly lucky. I don’t know what else to say.”
