Vauban wins the JCB Triumph Hurdle
Another victory for Willie Mullins and Paul Townend as Vauban takes the JCB Triumph Hurdle.
The Irish got things going in excellent fashion on Day Four of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival with Willie Mullins and Paul Townend both celebrating as Vauban finishes first past the post in the JCB Triumph Hurdle. This was a thrilling opening race on the fourth and final day of the Festival and as the sun blazed overhead, Paul Townend hit the ground running after a rather up-and-down third day at Prestbury Park.
Indeed this was an Irish whitewash with the first five runners home being from the Emerald Isle and while Vauban was a worthy winner after travelling well throughout the contest, Fil Dor was the best of the rest in the battle for second place. Pied Piper was edged into third at the line while Icare Allen and Il Etait Temps finished fourth and fifth respectively in what was a thrilling opener.
Winning trainer Willie Mullins said: “He’s just got so much speed for this type of race. He is the type of horse we could bring back to Flat racing some stage in his career but he’s had a jump racing season and might want a break now. I’d imagine that (Champion Hurdle) would be the obvious place to go next season.”
